About SALC

Breaks during training

Three breaks are provided during your training day at SALC: morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

Change rooms and showers

A change room is provided on site with a limited number of lockers available to students for storage of clothing and other items.
Showers are available for use, but towels and toiletries are not supplied nor available on site.

Disability Access

SALC is an accessible training location that is wheelchair-friendly.

Accessible parking bays are located in the parking lots around the Minda site.

There is a dedicated restroom facility for visitors with special needs, which includes a toilet and shower.

Dress standards

Neat-casual clothes are required for training days, and close-toed shoes must be worn. Considering activity-type training like manual handling training, it is advised to wear comfortable clothing.

For Horticulture training, the below dress code and PPE applies:

  • high-visibility vest, shirt or jacket
  • long pants
  • safety footwear (i.e.: steel capped boots)
  • Wide-brimmed hat
  • Gardening gloves
  • Water bottle
  • SALC will provide safety glasses, ear protection and sunscreen when required

Unless otherwise advised, you are required to wear the Operational Area minimum requirement. For more information refer to the Western Power PPE Procedure.

First Aid

There are trained First Aid officers on-site and a First Aid kit in the main building.

Any incidents or accidents must be immediately reported to your trainer or a member of SALC staff, who will be able to direct you to the most appropriate First Aid officer.

SALC staff or First Aid officers are not permitted to issue you with painkillers or any other kind of medication.

Parking

Parking is available on site at several locations. We recommend parking in the parking lot off the Southern Entrance from King George Ave, which is closest to the Rogerson/SALC Training Building.

Please secure your vehicle and any loose items in utilities or trucks as the car parks are not patrolled and are open for general entry during the day.

Please note: parking a vehicle in a SALC carpark is at the owner’s risk.
